Our Story
Kreating Space Basketball Academy (KSB), founded by Coach Rick King, is a year-round basketball program designed to transform middle school boys and girls into high school ready athletes.
KSB emphasizes not only basketball skill development but also physical conditioning and personal growth, instilling discipline, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the court.
We believe in building the fundamentals first balance, footwork, biomechanics, technique, and shooting mechanics before pushing athletes to game speed. Every drill begins slow, then progresses faster, and finally reaches true game pace for mastery.

Our mission is to empower youth through basketball by instilling strong fundamentals, promoting academic excellence, and offering dedicated mentorship. We aim to equip student-athletes for success in high school, college, leadership roles, and life, both on and off the court.

Meet Coach Rick
KSB Academy was founded by Rick King, who grew up in the Logan neighborhood of Philadelphia as the youngest of six boys. Basketball became his passion early on, first through the guidance of community mentor Officer Melvin Kilgore Sr. from the Logan PAL Center, and later under the mentorship of the legendary Head Coach John Hardnett of Diamond Medics. What stood out most about Coach Hardnett’s approach was his dedication to fundamentals. He slowed the game down, teaching young athletes how to think, move, and play with intention. Beyond skills and drills, he built character, discipline, and respect, lessons that shaped Rick into the man, father, and coach he is today.
Now, as Founder of KSB Academy, Rick is committed to bringing basketball back to its roots. He believes the game has shifted away from developing strong fundamentals toward showmanship, often overlooking the importance of nurturing natural talent. KSB Academy is his answer to that shift, a space where young athletes can learn the game the right way. Through focused training, mentorship, and a culture built on respect and discipline, the Academy prioritizes skill development, teamwork, and basketball IQ over flash.
Rick’s mission is simple: to pass on the same life-changing lessons he once received, ensuring that today’s young players not only grow as athletes but also as confident, disciplined individuals ready to lead both on and off the court.
